We recruit Emerson DeltaV engineers for systems integrators, manufacturers and engineering firms across North America, on retained, contingency, embedded and contract terms. That covers configuration and commissioning engineers, batch engineers, migration leads, DeltaV MES engineers and the project managers who run DeltaV jobs.
Most of the DeltaV work we see sits in pharma, biotech and specialty chemicals, and there’s a lot more of it on the way. Drugmakers pledged more than $370 billion of US investment in 2025. In North Carolina alone, Johnson & Johnson has broken ground on a biologics plant in Wilson and announced a second one there, Genentech has taken its Holly Springs investment to around $2 billion, Amgen is adding a second drug substance plant in Holly Springs and AbbVie has picked Durham for a $1.4 billion sterile injectables campus. Lilly has committed more than $21 billion in Indiana since 2020 and is building in Houston, Richmond, Huntsville and the Lehigh Valley. Plants like these need automation engineers to configure and commission them, and DeltaV is the DCS we’re asked for most on life sciences work.
The installed base keeps people busy too. Emerson puts it at more than 14,000 DeltaV systems, over 1,700 of them in life sciences and food and beverage. DeltaV v16 came out in January 2026 with the software defined IQ Controller and a subscription option, and Emerson’s own upgrade page says the Microsoft operating system under most version 14 systems reached end of support on the 13th of October 2026. In a validated plant every one of those upgrades goes through change control, risk assessment and retesting, so the work needs engineers who know GMP as well as they know the platform. DeltaV is also moving beyond its usual plants: in August 2026 Emerson extended the DeltaV Automation Platform into AI scale data centers, which widens the market for engineers who already know it.
The engineers who do this work well tend to stay where they are. An automation firm in Massachusetts told us this year that they can never find enough DeltaV engineers and they’re still picky, and that’s how most of our DeltaV clients sound. The good ones describe hard won DeltaV experience as ordinary because everyone around them has it, so their resumes undersell them. We find them through conversations rather than keywords.
What we look for is ownership. An engineer who has taken a DeltaV migration from design through FAT to startup is worth more to a pharma integrator than one who has touched the platform on eight sites, and the resume won’t show you which is which. We ask every engineer to take us through a project before they reach your inbox, which is why we send 1.2 resumes for every first interview our clients run.
Jon led an embedded program that placed 12 niche engineers across DeltaV, project management and process engineering for a global pharma engineering firm in five months (Case 05 on our Results page). On contract we placed eight engineers onto pharma and life sciences sites for a top tier integrator between February and August 2026, drawn from our pools across DeltaV, Rockwell, Ignition, AVEVA PI and MES (Case 02). Contract also suits weekend support cover and the push before a go live.
Some of our clients would rather hire an engineer with GMP experience and train them on the platform than hire the platform without the regulated background. If your role can work that way, say so on the first call, because it opens the pool a long way.
